Hello!

My company is planning to purchase another Indigo2 in the near future.  I
am interested whether anyone knows or not if the texture-mapping
capabilities of the Impact are or will be utilized in Alias (ex.
real-time Quickshade?).  The answer will influence our decision to either
get a brand new Impact or get two used I2e's.

In this month's IRIS Universe, and article featuring the Impact
product line includes Alias Research as one of the companies
developing for the Impact graphics set.  When, where, what, how I'm
not sure about - (didn't read the whole article).

The Maya stuff previewed at SIGGRAPH showed that they're serious about
accellerating the performance of the interactive side of Alias with the
graphics hardware. It's also likely that some of this will show up in the
v7 release. Quickshade is still nearly useless on an Extreme.

My guess is that Studio Paint will take advantage of Impact in the same
way that it takes advantage of Reality Engine. I don't use studio paint,
and I don't intend to.
