SGI & Wacom tablet problems

Post by JP Asperi » Wed, 31 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I've been trying to install the software (3.02) for my tablet
(UD1212) on my machine (I^2 extreme) and am having difficulties. The
response from Wacom tech support was "I don't know what's wrong."

When I try to run the script from the install CD, I get the message
"Easy.Install - command not found"
I've tried copying the installation to the hard drive, changing the
permissions on the script, and downloading the software from Wacom's
ftp site, but I still get the same message.

If I'm logged in to my machine using my personal account, the script
runs, but then cannot execute the commands, because the script must
be run under root (the first command executed is a link command). If
I change my permission to "su root", the Easy.Install command
returns the "command not found" message.

Help. I'm stuck. I'm no Unix guru, just an animator. But I'm willing
to try anything.

You shouldn't do "su root" since you will then pick up the environment variables set in your "root user" environment.
Just do "su" when logged in as you, or even (I think) "su <your username>".
Then the environment is still your own, if you have set any variables I mean.

If you are in the directory where the executable file is (you can see it) try the command "./<executable_file_name>"
And I suppose you have tried "chmod u+x <executable_file_name>" to make sure the file is executable.

You wouldn't by any chance be running AFS, would you?

Hi,

As root you normally don't have a path set to your current
directory (i.e. the one you are in).
So instead of starting "Easy.install" try it as "./Easy.install".
That should take care of the problem.

Another hint: I found that that for some Wacom SD tablets
the older driver version 2.02 works better than the current
3.02 (for Irix5.3).

I hope it helps,

1. Wacom tablet & Write problem

Sorry for the long re-post text but ... I, too, have the exact same symptoms.

Write pukes and displays the error "Not enough memory to run Write ... blah
blah blah".

If any solutions to this conundrum are discovered please inform me.
I do use Write quite often.

Anyway thanks for clarifying that error for me.
