Google for transcode.  On the webpage under 'tutorials' you'll find an
example.

Depends on which software you are using to make the sequence of images.

I use blender and it can already output to avi/avijpg etc.

If you have a sequnce of raw jpeg/ppm etc then you can use
mpeg_encode or im2avi etc progs to create animation.

If you are thinking of DV then kino works fine.

1. Editing animation sequences and videotape (was: Transferring Animation Sequences to Video Tape)

I am doing scientific visualization.  I have an Abekas A65 and
a Betacam deck.  I prepare individual frames and put them on the Abekas
(max of 815 frames total) and then flush them to the tape.

I would like to find some software that runs on Sparc's and allows
me to edit a tape by rearranging sequences of frames that I have
developed at various times.  The functionality could be similar to a
line based editor like vi, which would let me move and copy blocks
of frames, delete frames and close up the hole where they were, etc.

Since the Abekas is normally an output-to-tape device (and not an
input-from-tape), I would think the frames would have to stay on disk
on your computer, probably in compressed HUV format, and the program
would put the sequences to the Abekas, and from there to the tape.

Has anyone developed such a device?  It would have to let you see
your edit in progress, from the Abekas output...
