Hello everybody,

EGI version 4.0 has been released. EGI is a frame animation engine plus an
animation compiler. It uses a superset of the Autodesk FLIC format, and
extends it with many features (transparency, overlays, sound, higher
compression).

The library is convenient for programmers because it gives full control over
all aspects of playback. The following tasks are quite easy with EGI:
o  integration with another graphics/animation library;
   e.g. play animations in a layer of a sprite library
o  integration with DirectX
o  animating (with transparency) directly on the Windows desktop
o  synchronizing external events to the animation (or vice versa)

It is a software product (currently in late beta and free
for now) that is designed for doing stopframe animation.
It has most of the cool features you would want in such
a product. I think it can even works with a DV camera
as the input.

I have not used it, but it answers a question that comes
 up around here a lot.
