XP file locking etc etc...

Post by Nick Pric » Fri, 07 Mar 2003 18:28:10

Following on from the numerous posts, discussion and confusion re file
locking in XP and SMB signing.

I spoke to MS support in the UK this morning as I'd previously obtained
810907 and was enquiring about the subsequent 811492 which apparently
included this and subsequently discovered fixes...they told me that 811492
has since been replaced twice...

They are now saying that 812937 is the current version and contains all
previous and new fixes.

Which is nice.

Isn't this fun?

1. converting /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow passwords to /etc/smbpasswd

Hi,

We have a samba 2.0.6 server running with some W98 clients.
We want our users to authentificate themselves at the server.
the unix password sync works O.K.
My problem is, that right now we have an empty /etc/smbpasswd and an
/etc/shadow
with something like a hundred individual passwords, that we want to
keep.
Is there a tool that converts /etc/passwd and the shadow file to an
smbpasswd file?

thnx
Grant
