To give an impression of the speed of SEA 1.0, we'll compare SEA with
QPV 1.6c (formerly known as QPEG), which used to be the fastest JPEG viewer
For each of the formats that are supported by both SEA and QPV, we'll show
the difference in speed:
JPEG : 40-80% faster
GIF,PNG : twice as fast
PCX, Compressed LBM : 3 to 4 times as fast
TIFF is not supported by QPV.
The compression of TGA and BMP files is so simple that there is not much to
All differences are in favour of SEA 1.0 (of course).
Conversion is also much faster than all other programs available today.
Writing PNG files for example is faster than pkzip(tm) (which uses the same
To run SEA 1.0 you need at least a 386, 2MB of memory, and a vesa compatible
graphics card with at least 512KB of video memory.
A mouse is highly recommended, as is more memory.
- SEA 1.0 will be available early september on major ftp-sites, the exact
locations will be announced in another posting at release time.
- The only reason we've compared SEA to QPV is that QPV is the only program
that comes even remotely close to the speed of SEA 1.0
- Support for GIF files is still uncertain, due to legal issues.
