texture problem and clone problem

Post by M.B. » Thu, 22 May 2003 23:56:53

Hi guys!
    It's me again...

I have this very long tunnel that I have modeled and the camera is going
thru it, following the same path that I used to create it
and it's cool to watch and a light spot is parented to the camera and
follows 3 feet behind.

But.... I cannot apply the texture right. (a 800X800 kind of celestal
texture) (i'm thinking of increasing it size a lot)
The texture should line up with the path or what?
I have try for 3 days to apply it right but in the middle of the run, I can
see that the texture isn't align correctly.
It's a tunnel with a lot of curves.

I still have a lot to learn about texturizing things like that.

Any suggestions?
--------------------------------------------
Another question:

I wanted to add section to this tunnel, so I modeled some kind of circular
openings that would improve
the look of it and I have try to path clone it but I could not make the
section stay oriented with the tunnel.
The sections keeps pointing in the Z+, shit.
I have also tryed with rail clone and it does the same.
What am i doing wrong?
Creating the tunnel work well with a spline curve and I do not understand
why it does'nt work with the clone stuff.

---------------------------------------------

Thanks again guys!

Hey guys,

There's a MUCH easier way to do a tunnel fly-thru.  Instead of
trying to actually fly thru a twisty tunnel just use a short
straight piece (I doono, andout 20X longer than it's diameter)
and wiggle one end of it around with a spline.  Fake the motion
by moving the texture on an envelope.  Then all ya gotta do to
the camera is move it around the opening a bit.

The setup time for the whole thing takes les time than tweaking
just the camera spline once and it's completely dynamic.

Thanks a lot Fish
    I'll try that!
(But really, I should've thought of UVs)

Ok tesselator, i'll try that on the next tunnel, because this part of the
scene is complete.
This tunnel also has sections all along and the setup was already pretty
easy.

But be certain that I have noted it for later use.

PS, my question was mostly about setting the texture correctly.

Thanks.

Tess,
Obvious now you mention it, but I wouldn't of thought of that myself
initially, cool !!!

Gonna play with that once I have a bit of time. :-)

I did not know that a SPLINE can be use like that.
or is there something I didn't understand?
I thought you were talking about bones. But no, you keep mentionning
SPLINE

Can you explain a little more Tess?

You can't use splines like that in Layout which is kind of a bummer, I
know. However, you could use "Bezier Bend" ( check* ) or use bones like
you mentioned. Would be cool if it would be possible to actualy animate
splines in Layout.

Well I was thinking of a plug-in which I can't seem to remember the name of
off the top of my head.  It was like curve conform but was animatable and
would even let you use multiple curves (uhh, SPLINES) to like animate fingers
of a hand and stuff.  I have it indexed at school but first I'm gonna have to
remember it's name.  :P

But for now for this, just use "Deform Bend".  It's built it with 7 and
actually /is/ a 2 point spline...  You just can't see it.  Well kinda  :D

You can add more than one "Deform Bend" if you need more than a two
point spline.

Also a bone chain and IK will do the same thing (or better) but will
take you an extra 5 minutes to setup.

7.5c

attach the plugin to an object, then use a spline with however many control
points you want to control the object's shape, not perfect but still pretty
darn cool

Sorry.  Treat me like a dummy...  Shouldn't be too hard.  :D

What plug-in,  attach it where?, control it how?

I /'have/ done this before...  I know I have...  But when I went
in (to 7.5c) to look up the preceedure for the guy (cuz I haven't
used it in a year or more) I couldn't find it.

Maybe he's talking about the "Curve Conform" plugin ?? But you can't
animate the curve with it....

1. Hercules Clone Card Problems

I recall that someone posted a similar problem recently, but
I didn't catch any responses, if there were any, so here
goes again:  I have an XT-clone with a Hercules Clone card
in it.  Commercial software (GEM) and share ware (Spacewars,
Simcga) seem to work fine; but when I try to run programs that
I have compiled with the prec[Dscribed formula before I run any
of the commercial software or shareware, it looks th[D[Dlike the screen
is out of synch.  Oddly enough, this same software seems to
run fine after I have run GEM or Simcga or Spacewars. So...what
are these programs doing that my gmode() function according
to the book is not doing?  Do I have to select a video page
or some such thing?
