Help with 3dsMax paths, PLEASE...

Post by M » Thu, 03 Apr 1997 04:00:00

I'm new to using 3ds Max, and 1 want to do 2 very basic things. First,
I want to draw a spline path and have the camera and/or target follow
that path. And secondly, there MUST be a way to draw a spline path,
draw a circle, and extrude the circle along the path to create a
tunnel. How are these done? Any help is very much appreciated...

Try reading the manual. Jesus this stuff is childs play kind of work
that is easily covered in the modeling manual, animation manual, and
tutorial guide. If you are using a cracked copy, well why not trying to
ask Kenetix for help ;)

Look, if you can't help me out then fine. You don't have to be a loser
about it. Since I left the original message I've got the path thing
working. I just need the extrusion help now. If I had a cracked copy
of the program, I sure as hell wouldn't be stupid enough to be posting
to news groups now would I? Sheesh...

So, if anyone out there has done extrusions along a path, and can save
me time flipping through the manual, I'd appreciate it. Thanx...

There is a whole chapter on lofts(Ch11) in the Concepts and Modeling
manual.
Tutorial 20-22 cover everything you need to know also. I don't know,
many people using cracked copies post here daily.

So you spend the time to log on, post a question, wait for an answer as
opposed to looking it up in the index? Well your answers are in the
above pages so no searching needed, just look it up and go.

Off the top of my head...the camera thingy is done by drawing the spline>
going to the motion panel and assigning a spline/bezier controller.  then
you simply pick the object you want to link to the spline [theres a pick
object button]

then you simply animate

For the second thingy...skinning the spline...its called lofting.

if you go to the creat panel >splines and create your splines then go to
primitives panel and drop down the list there and click loft objects.  A
dialog opens up asking you to pick the shape and spline you want to loft.
if you look around there are some cool apparatus for tapering, teetering,
etc the loft object which you'll find cool.

i recommend buying a book or something 'cause theres lots of cool stuff
hidden away

good luck

If you can't buy the software , buy a book for christ's sake.
There are several good Max books for under $100 dollars.
These questions are like

"My friend gave me a stolen car, could you tell me how to start it and how to
drive it?"

The news group is here to ask questions NOT easily answered in the manuals.
Plus there are on-line tutorials too. Don't be so *ing lazy.

Cool! Thanx Scott. All I needed was someone to say the word "lofting",
and I could figure it out from there.

1. HELP, PLEASE--Clipping Paths Help Needed Quickly

Hi, everybody,

I am working in Photoshop 4.01, and I have a piece of art that a friend
of mine has painted. The art is black outlined on white, and when I try to
create a clipping path mask, there is still a hint of white around the
black outline. What is the best way to get rid of this white that is left
around this black outline?

can finish this project! Thanks a lot.
