'WELD' - newbie

Post by James Lov » Wed, 01 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I'm just getting to grips with max3, but I'm really pissed off with summit.
I've spend 5 nights trying to get the f--king weld tool to work. I've
followed about 6 tutorials, and each and every one says almost the same
thing, ' bring the 2 vertexes as near as possible, and hit "selected",
however, I keep getting that f--king message about no vertexes within the
Threshold, no matter how high i set it! WTF is happening? Can someone write
a simple way of bonding 2 vertexes, and a way that WORKS

TIA

I know this is a dumb question, but you do have more than one vertex
selected, right? If so, feel free to email me something dead and stinky, and
accept my apologies........

Right-click on your "SNAP" button at the bottom of the screen and select
"Vertex" and close the panel. Activate the snaps button and drag one vertex
to another and it'll snap to the target Vertex. Drag select both of these
vertices and then use "Weld".

This works for my always. Make sure the vertexes are close to each other and
you weld threshold is high enough.
Remember that you are working in 3D and check your other views to make sure
you are close in all 3 dimensions.

I've check all of those, the vertexes appear on top of each other, in all 3
views, but the 2 vertexes will NOT weld. I've noticed, that if i set the
thresh high enough, and i select 3 vertexes, it DOES weld, but it wont with
2, what gives?

Hi James,

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but the vertices have to be part of the
same Line i think. As far as i know you first have to attach the lines that
contain the vertices you want to weld. When they are attached, you can weld
them by selecting the vertices and clicking Weld.

Hope this helps.

MRB.
