Lens Flares..

Post by Ulf Johansso » Sun, 10 May 1998 04:00:00

I have a problem with Lens Flares, i have a camera, and a Omni light
and assign the Omni to be used as the node for the Flare. Everythings
nice when the camera is pointing towards the light, i rotate the camera
and the flare disapears at the edge. But, when the camera points in the
other direction, away from the light, the flare reappears. Anyone
know whats going on??

Thanks. Ulf Johansson

It would sound that your node is going out of camera view. Nothing to flare
if the node pans away.

Yeah, i know, but when the node is in the opposite direction of the
camera, the flare reappears. Try it, make an omni light, assign it
as a node in the flare, create a camera not pointing at the node but
in the opposite way, and voila the flare is there...

1. lens flare lens reflections in version 5

In the new version of LW, can the size of the lens flare lens
reflection, those glowing circles that move when the camera does, be
shrunk or enlarged?  They always seemed too large and bright in
prorportion to the central flare glows, and when you use a real movie
camera, paticulaly outdoors, the lens reflections are usualy smaller and
there are many more of them.  I wish you could controll the size of the
reflections so they grew or shrank depending on a virtual f-stop setting,
and you could have round or polygonal elements, and if you racked focus,
the reflection elements shrank or expanded out.

Last year there was a trailer for the movie Waterworld, and they had a
nice sun flare with little polygonal lens reflections, i wonder what
software was done for that?
