Also, fyi... as soon as you actually convert the RGB image to CMYK the
colors are brought (supposedly) to their closest CMYK equivalent.

And IF you still want to fiddle with individual out of gamut colors
you could select the color (color range) and fiddle with the curve,
levels, brightness etc of just your selection. I've done that on
occasion because I was not completely satisfied with the closest
equivalent that the RGB -> CMYK provided and wanted to tweak it a
little.

One of the KPT filters can also help brighten dull cmyk colours -- KPT
Intensify, I think.

You also might try using selective color. After bringing the colors into range
with Hue/Saturation, I then convert to CMYK. I then go to selective color and
pick the color I'm trying to boost, and intensify the channels that make up
that color.

help on RGB/CMYK conversion

Here's what I do, to get minimal color change from RGB-->CMYK

1st. Auto level and raise mid-point to suit taste.

2nd. Filters/Noise/Despeckle

3rd. Filters/Sharpen/UnsharpMask
Settings at 75% to 93%(Depending on clarity of image), 3.2, and 3 repsectively

4th. Allow RGB-->CMYK conversion.

By the way, if your in 16-bit mode or high color mode on your monitor rather
than in true-color mode, you may be seeing more saturation loss than your
actually going to get on a print. Deep purples and violets will always loose
more than any other color in the conversion. Blues however, can still be quite
vibrant if generally left to thier own divices. Beyond that I can only suggest
you get a lasor barrel 3 color pass printer. I think the good ones are going
for about $20,000.

Good Luck.
