Any way to separate layers into separate files?

Any way to separate layers into separate files?

Post by Glenn Sto » Thu, 08 May 1997 04:00:00

Running PS 4.0 under Win95.

I have some many-layered PS files and I need to separate these layers out
and save each in its own single-layered file (could be PSD, JPG, TIF,
whatever).  Too cumbersome to copy each layer, open new file, past, save
-- is there any way (or a utility that will allow me) to automate this
process?

An alternative would be to have the different layers appear as separate
images on a contact sheet.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Just make each layer visible by itself one by one, then save as a copy.

You could try recording some actions for doing this..

Copy each layer and paste into new doc...

but use actions, then you can do this with one button click.

1. splitting a layered file into separate files

Hey all you smarty-pants out there,

Anyone know of a utility/function/thing that will split a psd file with
x-number of layers into separate files in a 'user definable' way?

For example; if I had a psd file with 5 layers, and I wanted to split it up
into 5 tga files...

The reason for this is that I create textures for 3d in photoshop and
usually make the rgb/bump/specular/etc in one psd file, which I then have to
go through and ...split up. It can get a bit tedious when there are more
than a few textures in one project. Which always seems to be the case.
