fuzzy edges where two graphics merge - help pls

Post by Jenny Brandi » Wed, 14 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I am trying to get several photos to go together like a collage and have
the joins of the photos to 'blur' together. Can anyone offer suggestions
on how to do this or direct me to a tutorial?

Here's a quick and dirty technique that will still let you go back and change
things later if you want to tinker with the effect...

Put each image you want to place in your collage on a separate layer in your
document.

Select the image area in each layer that you want to keep.

Select->Save Selection->Layer Mask.

Select->None

Click on the layer mask icon, and Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur

This will blur the layer mask, interactively (you can see the results on the
screen as you adjust the blur amount) while still preserving the entire image
intact. If you choose to change it at a later date, you can blur the mask some
more (to increase the effect) or you can throw the mask away and start over
without having to re-create your collage (if you want to use a different area
of the image or decrease the blending effect).

Make sure you blur the layer /mask/, not the layer itself!

Check out the tutorials that came with your copy of Photoshop.
Look up Layer Masks.

1. Creating fuzzy transparent edges on images?

Is there any tool for either UNIX or W95 that will
make me able to create fuzzy transparent edges around
images?

I found something for the MAC that does exactly what
I'm looking for. It's called featherGIF and can be found
at:

http://ccn.cs.dal.ca/~aa731/feathergif.html

The picture of the castle on this page shows exactly the
effect I'm trying to make.

Yesterday I saw a chicken crossing the road.  I asked it why.
It told me it was none of my business.
