Am looking to purchase a color laser printer for proofing, it seems to
come down to the Apple Color Laserwriter 12/600 PS or the Tektronix Z550.
Any suggestions, good or bad experiences or advise welcomed. Thanx!

I use the Apple Color Laserwriter 12/600 at work. I'm very satisfied; it works
well enough for creating color comps. I think it has better color accuracy than
most fireys I've seen.

I have no idea how the Tektronix compares.

I use the Apple Color Laserwriter 12/600 at work. I'm very satisfied; it works
well enough for creating color comps. I think it has better color accuracy than
most fireys I've seen. I have it hooked up to my PM9500 directly via the
ethernet connection.

I have no idea how the Tektronix compares.

Been using the apple for about 8 months. No problems, great color, low
cost per page. But, remember the colors will have a high gloss. I think
the HP has flatter colors but, most reviews I've read list the apple as
the best.

Looked at samples of the other manufactures and they didn't compare with
the apple.

I guess Apple did something right.

Thanx to all of you who replied. Update - the TEK seems to have some
problems. It was suggested that I check out the new Canon Color Laser Beam
360PS. I did - the print outs look like Fierys. But it cost $12,500! The
Apple is selling for around $6,000.

If you know an Apple sales-type person (i.e, one that works for Apple),
Apple is currently having a promotion whereby their sales folks can
order items from a list of products for you at pretty good prices. The
Apple Color Laser is $3955 on this list (you also have to buy the $405
accessory kit). Don't know how long this will last, but I suspect not
long, and of course, the sales person has to be willing to do it for
you...
