Silicon Graphics has a new open position in its Mountain View headquarters
for a Member of the Marketing Staff.
This Member of the Marketing Staff will be responsible for development of the
Scientific Computing market for ASD within the Chemical and
Oil/Gas/Earth Sciences industries. This MMS will be responsible for defining
the strategy, and driving a marketing plan to achieve sales and strategic goals
within the segment. To achieve this, the MMS will need to be conversant with
all aspects of this market, including key ISV's, systems integrators,
customers, and influencers (such as analysts, universities, and consultants),
and will need to have a good overall understanding of customer needs and market
forces within this segment. Responsibilities include:
- define appropriate segment strategy and tactics
- execute tactical marketing plan in conjunction with other SGI organizations
(ie. business dev, corporate marcom, other SGI vertical marketing
organizations, divisional product marketing, and divisional
- grow the revenue in this segment
- ensure SGI has a differentiated product solution by working with
customers/ISV to incorporate SGI hardware and software technology in the ISV
- measure and communicate progress against plans
- identify new application opportunities within the segment
- evangelize ASD products and solutions within the market
Specific activities may include:
Attending trade shows and conferences, representing SGI position in this
market. Develop success stories, sales training materials, white papers,
mail programs, videos, articles and other collaterals. Visit customers to
determine needs, present SGI directions and to assist the sales force. Analyze
competitor strategies and tactics, and incorporate knowledge of these on the
segment strategy and tactical plans.
This position requires a Bachelors degree in Marketing or a technical field, or
equivalent, plus three or more years directly related experience in the
Scientific Computing. Requirements include strong communication
skills, industry knowledge, and an understanding of symmetric multiprocessing.
Knowledge of seismic data and image processing, reservoir simulation,
chemistry, or OpenGL are desirable.
