hi there!
some websites have graphics with images wich slowly become sharper while
they're loaded to the client. does anyone know how it's done?

In PhotoShop you can save your gif images as interlaced.  This gives you the
option to slowly load graphics.  You can also save your jpegs as progressive
and even select how many layers you would like it to load in.
