I can't find a picture software

Post by Trevo » Thu, 08 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I can't find a software that can take a picture as you are actively doing
something, as on Macs, you push: control+ shift+ 3 for the whole desktop
picture or: control+shift+4 for a section of the desktop that you are going
to take a picture of. I looking you a software as lif=ke you would push F12
to take a desktop picture for PCs. Also, can you make this Freeware.

PS: the Mac controls may not be all correct.

Thankyou for you time.

I can't find a picture software

There's software out there, expensive and otherwise. I use Corel Photopaint,
but Paintshop Pro is pretty good too. Even without those progs, if you are
using Win95 or 98, you can hold down the "Alt" key and press the "Print Screen"
key, it places a screen capture into the clipboard memory. Just paste it into
almost any software that allows pasting pics. I just tried it with Netscape and
it worked fine.

Try SnagIt, at www.techsmith.com, its supposed to be a 30-day shareware,
but on my computer it worked for 250 days and still is. Its really good,
includes Video Capture, Image Capture, Text Capture and more.

I don't think you need to hold Alt at all. Print Screen by itself seems to
do the trick for me.

How right you are. But there's a difference. Hitting Print Screen saves the
whole screen, Alt + Print Screen saves only the active window to the clipboard.
That's the method I find useful more often, I forgot about leaving off the Alt
part.

1. 16-bit .BMP: can't find any software that loads it

Apparently 16-bit .BMP files are very uncommon -- I can't find any
software that knows what to do with it.  Or at least, I can -- MS
Paintbrush will only load it on systems with 16-bit color cards on them,
and I have only 8-bit color on my SVGA card.  Alchemy image works gives
an error that 16-bit is an unrecognized type, paintbrush gives a memory
error, Graphics Workshop complains, etc.

Does anyone know of any free/shareware software on the net that can do
the conversion to a 24-bit bmp (or gif or whatever) or someone who would
be willing to convert if I sent them the images by email?

Thanks..
