sudden finder crashes?

sudden finder crashes?

Post by phineas » Sat, 22 Feb 2003 21:32:33

for quite a while now, I'm noticing the following condition (on my PB G3
500, 384mb, Mac OS X 10.2.4):

when opening a window with more than lets say 30 different items,
suddenly
the finder seems to crash and immediately start up again, but all open
windows disappear. sometimes this can also be triggered by changing
views
(like from column view to list view).

did anyone experience the same? I'd really like to know if this is some
local conflict on my machine, or a bug in x?

Don't think its a bug in X.  My machine does it when I put in
questionable media.  Ex.. CDRs

1. PM7100/80 Crash,Crash,Crash...

Excerpts from netnews.comp.sys.mac.system: 11-Jan-96 PM7100/66DL wierd

I have been having similar problems with a PM7100/80 8/700/CD.  It
crashes several times per day and requires rebooting each time (no
multi-colored line on the screen, however).  I have tried the following:

    1) Running with only essential extensions -> no help.
    2) Recording all crashes (i.e. which programs were running, what
action
precipitated the crash.) -> Vast majority of crashes were caused
by
network software (e.g. Netscape 1.12, NCSA Telnet, etc.)
    3) Avoid running network programs -> NO CRASHES.
    4) Install OpenTransport 1.1beta -> Now crashes with non-network
programs but not with the programs that were a problem before.

- Software in use: MS Word 6, MS Excel 5, Netscape, NCSA Telnet, mail
program.  Virtual memory - 16MB.  OpenTransport 1.1beta.

'Fraser', can you let me know if you have received any e-mail
regarding your problem?

Anyone else have the magic cure?

    Thank you for any help.
