reflash the OS on The Palm IIIxe

Post by daniel.kaseman » Sun, 29 Apr 2001 05:21:08

sorry for the multimail, but having big big problems...

My Palm allways crashes and hangs even directly after a hard reset, and
before the first hotsync. I think That FlashPro missed up my Flash
Rom...
Now i Would like to reflash my Palm OS (I downloaded it some time ago
for the POSE).
But the Vx-FlshTool doesn't 'see' the palm in debug mode (working with
the advanced option of the upgrade util). The next button doesn't apear.
I think That it's a com-speed-problem. The palm stays in debug-Mode, and
does not crash in this mode. I tried both com-ports, a cradle and a
travel cable, endless resets, etc. no chance. I cna't start flashing,
because the next button does not appear. the tool doesn't recognize the
palm. But hotsyncing works...

The palm is half a year old. I hald Hotsync probs from the beginning on.
I had to turn down the communicatuion speed on the PC down to 38400. Is
there a way of setting the speed for the Flash-tool down? or could you
tell me another way to reflash the OS? Need help, can't use my Palm
anymore. Palm Support told me: By having used FlashPro, you have voided
your Warranty... (i really didn't know that before...) And in Newsgroups
i read, that FlashPro changes the Checksum of the OS, so I do not need
to send the Palm to support.

Thanks for your Help...

Try to take your cradle and palm to a freind and flash it there...Then you
know if its your PC or the Palm having problems....

Good Luck..

When I bought it last christmas, I had big problems with the hotsync.
Ist didn't start with the connection speed set to automatic on the pc.
(But it took me quite a long time to figure this out...) While trying to
get it work, I also tryed on my father's PC, had the same probs with the
Hotsync, even with his cradle. Both PCs have win2k pro, but this is the
only thing they have in common. I own a Pentim 233 MMX, Gigabyte board,
and my fathe a PII 350 Asus board. I tryed with Win98SE on my pc too,
same prob.

Thanks for the flash-progs, Claris.
But it didn't change anything. that are the versions i alsready tested.
I thnik it's a palm Problem, and a speed prob. As written, The Hotsync
does not work, when speed on PC is set to default, it only works with
com-speed of 38400 and beyond. But the default setting is max speed...
The flash progs do not recognize my Palm in Debug mode. The 'next'
button does not bekome aviable.
do you have an Idea for solving this problem?

Have you tried a FlashPro reset?  Do a reset while holding down the
memo button and when prompted press the todo button to reformat flash.
This will not effect the OS but any third party app you put into flash
will be gone.
