RPC Slices

Post by UIN: 301690 » Fri, 09 Feb 2001 09:50:03

Hopefully someone can shed some light on these 2 things.  The first is
more a seeking of confirmation, the second is a genuine question.

My 2 Questions are:

1: Am I right in thinking that there is no physical difference between
the "original" slice on a 1-slice RPC and "extra" slices?

2: Where can I get the "peggy-things" (technical that) to hold the case
together (If I add another slice)?

3: How much are they?

My 3 questions are...I'll start again.  :O)

TIA

No. The first slice includes LEDs (I don't know about other differences.

No it doesn't.  However it does have a hole cut-out at the back for the
power-supply.

same except:-
The drive cut outs at front.
The power in/out cut out at the back

We (CJE) took over Atomwide's stock of long pins & PSU brackets last year.

Quote:> 3: How much are they?

Pins set of 4 inc vat & post:-
2 Slice 18.00
3 Slice 35.00
4 Slice 35.00
5 Slice 35.00
6 Slice 35.00
7 Slice 35.00

We will Px 3+ slice pins for larger.

appart from the power supply holes for the connectors

either castle or atomwide I think

Quote:> 3: How much are they?

I don't know have a look at their site, if you want 2 slice pins I have
some spare, if you want to donate some cash to my RPC expansion fund (now
up to 5 slices and 10 drives hence the spare pins)

So it does. Are the LEDs part of the base?

...and the first slice usually has "RiscPC600" or "RiscPC700" printed on
it, plus the Acorn logo to the right. Subsequent slices don't have
anything printed on them.

Holes for FDD and mains power sockets. The former are easy to open, the
latter no so, as that bit of the case isn't weakened in any way.

The long peg things shouls come with the slice, if new. Mind you, they
aren't essential to making everything work, and it all holds together
quite well without them.

5 slices!!!!!!! How much has that cost you over time? How tall is it?

1. Remember the RPC slice idea?

1st Daft post circa 2000

Forget 3d card etcetera

Use the slice Luke Use the Slice!

Now rather than waiting for development time of hardware interfacing
software drivers fast enough motherboards FPUs .........

grab a couple o' slices slap in a TV card ( hardware overlayed type ie
no overheads on CPU) and then in the free space put a dreamcast inside
the new slices or wait for the PSX2 and which ever is a flip top mod the
lid of the RPC for access, connect the tv/rca output up to the tv card.
With the new Sony you'll even be able to watch DVDs

Even waiting for a uk sony psx2 it'll probably be quicker than waiting
for a realistically usable RISC Os solution (sadly!)

HEY PRESTO!!!

hey it's gotta be better than a remote controlled sink, hasn't it?

LONG LIVE THE SLICE    ;-)
