SMTP gateway on non OS/2 box?

SMTP gateway on non OS/2 box?

Post by Joe Landis - Systems & Network M » Wed, 27 Sep 1995 04:00:00

Hi,
We are currently running Notes off of OS/2 servers with DEC pathworks.
We will be bringing up Notes on NT servers shortly, and phasing out the OS/2
servers. The LAN here also contains a VMS/VAXcluster with TCP/IP,SMTP and a
UUCP based email gateway.

We would like to gateway Notes mail to/from VMSmail and out
to our UUCP host via SMTP and UUCP. I know about the Lotus SMTP gateway. It
looks like it would solve our problem, but I understand it will only run on
an OS/2 or Sun box. Is this true? If so, are there any other products that
would accomplish this? Keeping an OS/2 box on the network as a mail gateway
is not an option.

TIA,
Joe

1. Lotus Notes SMTP-Gateway under OS/2 - OS/2's Sendmail

Hello,

I just battled with getting OS/2's sendmail and Notes SMTP gateway
configured. Now I am at the point where I can send email from a notes
client on a notes email server and have it routed to the smtp gateway,
and then routed to the internet. I sent myself a test message and saw
the most insane email address, something like

Now, I dont think user's would generally like announcing this as their
internet email address. Also, I was hoping I could have some sort of set

correct recipient. Thus here is my question:

How advanced is os2's sendmail implementation? Will this sendmail be
able to handle aliasing such as:

Adam.Prato:  Adam_Prato/Server/Organization - Has anyone tried to do
such a thing under OS/2?

Also, it would be good to have it rewrite outgoing addresses so that an
address such as Adam_Prato/Server/Organization would be rewritten as

I know standard sendmail can handle this, but I was wondering if anyone
has tried this and/or has had some problems with such a configuration.

Thanks for your help.

Adam
