If your primary concern is archival storage, then by FAR the best option is
to use ShrinkIt to compress the 5.25" DOS 3.3 disks to 3.5's, and then
unpack the archive to a real 5.25 disk for use. Typically you can get
10-15 compressed 5.25 disks on one 3.5 floppy.

Q#33 How do I transfer DOS 3.3, Pascal, CP/M files?
Unless you have a null modem (see below) and a comm program for the OS
in question, you'll most likely have to use a real Apple II to
transfer the files to an OS that a lot more systems can read, such as
ProDOS.
The //e system software, the DOS 3.3 FST (GS/OS System 6), and Copy
][+ can all read and convert Dos 3.3 files into ProDOS (but the DOS
3.3 FST can not write to DOS 3.3 disks). This is only helpful for text
files, graphics, and some Basic programs. For translating between
ProDOS, CPM, Pascal and DOS 3.3, try the program Chameleon. You have
to use the 'force disk as ProDOS' option to use your hard drive.

Clarification needed:
Are you wanting to copy from 5.25" DOS 3.2/DOS 3.2.1 to ProDOS, or are you
trying to copy from 5.25" DOS 3.3 to ProDOS? The question is very important.
The following applies only to FILES.
If, for example, you have some DOS 3.3 stuff that you want to put on a
3.5" disk (maybe you have a IIc+, for instance), then you need the ][gs
Finder, or the newer Apple II System Utilities disk, or the ProDOS User's
Disk, or Copy ][+. Those programs can all copy from DOS 3.3 to ProDOS,
ProDOS meaning any size floppy or hard disk.
On the other hand, if you are trying to copy from DOS 3.2 or DOS 3.2.1
disks to DOS 3.3, you have another problem, since DOS 3.2 disks are
13-sector instead of 16 sector. To do those disks, you need the MUFFIN
program on the DOS 3.3 System Master. MUFFIN will copy DOS 3.2 disks onto
DOS 3.3 disks. Once you have done that, you can use the other solutions
(mine and others) to convert from the DOS 3.3 disks to ProDOS.

Thanks for all your help guy's.......maybe I had better clarify my
question. The problem occured when I booted up my IIc enhanced with
Works on a 3.5 disk. If I want to transfer files and programs to the
5.25 internal disk or vice-versa it won't do it.
I phoned Alltec Eletronics and talked to a tech. and he said I needed
a copy of either Oz dos or As dos to do it properly.
I hope this clears my question up.

OzDos (shareware or freeware) allows two 400k Dos 3.3 volumes on a 3.5 disk.
AmDos (commercial) does also, and is a better operating system.
Is this what you need? Works? You mean Appleworks? It's ProDos.
Sounds like the Alltech tech didn't understand what you need to do.
As Dave asked:

Are you messing with Microsoft Works? I don't think it's an 8 bit
application, probably only for the GS. It's sure not Apple Dos 3.2.
Who published this "Works"?

Just to correct you...
It was commercial from 1984 up until around 1992, when it was re-released asQuote:>OzDos (shareware or freeware) allows two 400k Dos 3.3 volumes on a 3.5 disk.
If the original Oz DOS archive had made it out of Genie in one piece,
instead of some low life simply re-upping the binary image to the 'net, then
people would know better.
In what ways? Most3.5" DOSs which came out (there are around five or so ofQuote:>AmDos (commercial) does also, and is a better operating system.

Is there a patch available to allow the DOS3.3 FST to recognize OZ-DOS
disks?

There's also the issue of recognizing such disks as modified
DOS3.3, not ProDOS disks. I'm not sure where exactly the level of "Do
you recognize this disk" takes place-- if the FSTs tell GS/OS what
disk sizes/media they support, or GS/OS queries each one in some
(probably ProDOS, HFS, then everything else) fashion.
Unfortunately, only Apple's made FSTs, and if anyone outside of them
knows, they ain't telling.

1. OZ.DOS ate my boot partition
I was just experimenting with Oz.dos, which is on the August '94
A2-Central disk and it looks like it snuffed my hd boot partition.
I had GSOS 6.01 on it. The hd will not boot but the other two partitions
seem ok. I'm using Proterm from slot 7, drive 2 right now. Copy II+
will catalog the 2 good partitions ok but s7,d1 shows 'no files'.
I need some advice- I don't mind reinstalling GSOS but I'd like to
recover the 30 megs of files from the partition if possible. What would
be the best application to attack this with? I have Prosel 16 and I can
borrow most any other reconstruction software from friends if I need to.
What do you think?
