Staroffice install problems

Post by Patrick Sonne » Wed, 13 Mar 2002 01:04:39

I am running KDE1.1 (defualt installation)

I am attempting to install Star office, and I am getting the following
set of error messages.  I've been a freebsd user for over 5 years, but
configuring and using xwindows is something new for me.  Any ideas where
I should look to find out how to get staroffice installed?

Thanks.

I am going to guess that you logged in as yourself and then 'su'ed
to root in an xterm to perform the install.  By default, X will
only allow the user who owns the session to access the display.
root, in this scenario, does not own the session.

To get the install to work, you can use the xhost command (in an
xterm owned by the user who created the session).  'xhost +' will
allow anybody anywhere to access the session.  Naturally this has
some important security implications.  Take a look at the man page
and balance your need for security with convenience.

Thanks, that was the solution to the problem.

1. Staroffice install problems: f 142 1, f 13 1, libsm517li.so

I am trying to install staroffie 5.1 on Debian with 2.2.14 kernel
and having the following errors during the install. I hope someone can
help me. Thanks.
PS. I downloaded staroffice from sun's web site with 7 tar fragments and

running the ./setup in xterm (also tried ./setup /net).
ERRORS:
1-) "f 142 1 not found" (I choosed ignore and continue on install, the
file did not come with 7 fragment I guess!)
2-) "f 13 1 not found" (I chosed ignore again and continue on install,
the file did not come with 7 fragment I guess!)
3-) "An error accured while unpacking the file libsm517li.so. There is
probably not enough disk space" (I am checking the disk space constanly
during the install with "watch df" and non of the partitions are near
full. I chosed ignore again and continue on install.)
4-) After install is comleted with these errors, I see the following
message in xterm:
      "File: ~/staroffice_5.1/so51inst/office51/f_138_1
End-of-centra-directory signature not found. Either this file is
not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In
the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found
on the last disk(s) of this archive."
