Is the core of Win 2K adv server the same as the core on
Win 2K professional? By core I mean the way programs are
processed and memory is handled????

Yes. All versions of Windows 2000 share the same code.  The differences are
in how many CPUs are supported, maximum memory and support for PAE memory
(e.g. memory over 4GB),  how the system is optimized by default, and what
additional services are packaged with the OS.

Question on Win 2K pro vs Win 2K adv Server

Basically the user interface looks the same. The heart of AS is Active Directory
(Pro does not have this)
The mem usage is relative to what is being done. As far as the system files using
memory....there is not much difference until you load Active Directory. I saw a
dramatic increase once I loaded AD. I run both of them at home on a 1 server 3
client network (Avanced Server and 3 Pros)
I hope this answers your question.

Active Directory is *not* at the core of Windows 2000 server products.
Although AD is the directory service used by Windows 2000, Windows does not
depend upon it.  It depends upon Windows 2000.

The operating systems are essentially identical - save for the different
features that are enabled within the different versions.
