New DC

Hi all,

this is my situation:

I have a WIN NT 4 network with 5 servers (1 PDC, 2 BDC, 2 stand alone). I
disconnected the second BDC from the network and upgraded to W2K AD DC (in
order to have all user accounts).

Then I installed new server also as W2K AD DC. What do I have to do in order
to remove the first DC from the domain?

Greetings Eric

That's interesting.  All the documentation says you can
only upgrade a PDC to AD.  Is your domain functioning
correctly?

To get rid of the upgraded server, the first dc, you need
to transfer all of the FSMO's to the new server as well as
teh global catalog. There is documentation on the MSKB for
such a thing.

Jack,

offcourse i promoted the disconnected BDC to PDC first (he was complaining
that he could not contact the PDC .......). And yes, my domain is
functioning.

Do I have to transfer the 5 FSMO's one by one, or is there a tool that takes
care of all of them?

Greetings Eric

One by one.  Takes about 5 minutes.  A few weeks ago I
posted a step by step on that.
