Next week: TechNet Chat - Software Distribution using Group Policy

Post by Mark Williams [MSFT » Thu, 19 Jun 2003 12:23:47

We're holding another TechNet Chat next week on Thursday June 26th. This
chat covers Software Distribution using Group Policy. Here's the outline for
the chat:

"Group Policy supports software deployment as an important feature to help
lower IT support costs. This chat focuses on the assignment of software to
machines or users and the publication to users. We'll cover how GPO's can be
created and targeted for software distribution, the upgrading of
applications once installed and the tools you can use to troubleshoot
software distribution through Group Policy. "

As many of you will know, TechNet Chats are a great way to get in contact
directly with developers, testers and program managers - in this case those
directly responsible for Group Policy, GPMC, etc. Using a web-based chat
interface, we'll be on hand to respond directly (and in real time) to your
questions. We've had an increasing number of people attend the recent series
of Group Policy-based TechNet chats and we hope you'll be able to join us at
10am Pacific next Thursday.

Details of future chats (and transcripts of previous chats) are available at

1. TechNet Chat: Troubleshooting Group Policy Using GPMC

Hopefully, many of you have had a chance to download and become familiar
with the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). One of the key goals of
this release was to leverage Resultant Set of Policy (RSoP) data and present
a more unified and effective set of tools for planning and troubleshooting
Group Policy.

To this end, we have a TechNet Chat scheduled for this coming Thursday (22nd
at 10am Pacific) that focuses directly on Group Policy Reports, Results and
Modeling and how these features play a key role in improving the efficiency
with which you can troubleshoot Group Policy. That said, TechNet Chats are
driven by you - the Group Policy admin, developer, etc - and so we'll be on
hand to answer questions you might have around Group Policy troubleshooting
in general.

We've coordinated a few of these chats in recent months and hope they are
exciting to you as a great way to pose your real-world questions directly
(and in real time) to Group Policy developers, testers and program managers.
We have a good range of people from the product group signed up to
participate in the chat. We're here to help and hope to see you on Thursday.
