Netgear FVS318 VPN connection problems.

Post by Richard Vincen » Tue, 18 Mar 2003 11:48:58

Hello,

I'm trying to use the built-in VPN client in Windows
XP/2000 professional to connect to this VPN firewall. I'm
not able to connect and I was wondering is it required to
use a third party VPN client with this device.

Or if someone has successfully connected to one of these
Netgear FVS318 devices via VPN networking maybe you can
point me in the right direction.

Thank you,

Richard Vincent

Netgear has a document on how to do this. It's a bit hard to follow,
but good luck.....

Here's a link to the Netgear page from which you can download the
article...
http://www.expressresponse.com/cgi-bin/progsnp/netgear2/srchjnnp?sear...

Alternatively, you can purchase client software (which you can learn
about on the Netgear page) that makes the connection easier and works
with all OS's.

Good luck.

I agree, the procedure from netgear is confusing by it does work.
Make sure you configure the VPN settings exaclty like the win2k
client. Send me an email if you need more help. One thing, however, I
have not been able to initiate more than 1 tunnel at a time. Netgear
says they can resolve this issue but I have my doubts.

Good Luck and Godspeed!!

Dave

1. VPN Connection thru NETGEAR FVS318

Has anyone had this problem:
I have established a VPN connection into our Company
Network. I can use the FIND computer in Win98 and it does
find the system whether using IP address OR by its Device
Name.

But when I try to use any of its resources I get the
error "No error information" OR [Address]is not Accesible.
I am using the NETGEAR FVS318 router to access the Network
thru the Internet and have the SafeNet SoftRemote as the
Client.
Thanks for any assistance.
