I am likely missing something in the translation here, but check the length
of the lease of the IP to the given machine. By default  I believe it to be
~ a week. Or, do you know whether or not this particular IP is reserved for
a particular machine / MAC Address?

Windows will not release the ip when windows address

When a workstation is issued an ip address, the duration
of the lease will govern the length of time it keeps that
particular ip address for. The workstation will not
attempt to release the ip address, it will instead try to
renew the lease every time it boots up and before the
lease is due to expire.
You can manualy release the ip address by doing the
following:
From a command prompt type   IPCONFIG /RELEASE

1. nic can not release/renew ip address

Fighting one system running 2k Pro. Can not get the nic card to
release or renew the IP address.
I have changed out nic's, uninstalled and reinstalled tcp/ip.
Winsock issue? System will see other systems on network and is visable
to other machines in workgroup.

Was sharing net access through a router. Have gone direct to the cable
modem, but still cannot renew nor release.

Ipconfig shows connestion specific DNS, IP address and subnet mask.
Does not show a default gateway.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
