Win2k3 Active directory synchronization

Post by Justin Kin » Sat, 26 Apr 2003 06:21:12

I am looking at upgrading our NT4.0 domain to Windows
2003 actice directory, however our NT4.0 domain uses
Netware Services for NT which synchronizes usernames and
password between the two. This has worked fine for the
time that we have used it.

Since Active directory is another LDAP directory services
what is the recommended way of running the two directory
services side by side and synchronizing users and
passwords. I've heard of MMS but was told it won't work
with Netware and Novell have DirXML but have heard this
hasn't proved reliable.

What can I do. As much as I would like to merge into one
Directory Service being Active Directory I have to find
away to accomodate the two directory services.

Justin,
In response to your post:

Windows 2000 is fully capable of operating in a Novell
evironment while maintaining full interoperability and
synchronization between the Microsoft (Active Directory)
and Novell accounts.

Here are some articles that provide virtually all the needed
references to existing documentation that help you
complete this task:

I look forward to hearing from you.

1. Active Directory Synchronization

I am working on a project to synchronize data
from Active Directory to Netscape Directory and
back.

I have a few questions regarding AD that I hope
someone can help with.

1. I understand there is a configuration option
that allows passwords in AD to be stored in a two-
way or reversible hash.  Any resources
reccommended to get more info on this?

2. What happens if a password is changed external
to AD, and a user has an active session running?
Similar scenerio... What happens if a user is
logged in on two machines and changes the
password on one.  What happens to the other
session?  WinNT had a session token (not sure
what the term is) that is generated upon
authentication, does AD have a similar mechanism?

Thanks

Andy Clay
