Unwanted Pop up Window

Unwanted Pop up Window

Post by Chandra Raminen » Mon, 31 Mar 2003 22:47:26

Hi

Whenever a user logs into my laptop running windows 2000
professional a pop-up window of the Windows explorer
appears. It always opens up the directory of an
application I had installed. When I deintall the
application( A file viewer) the pop-up window does not
appear upon login.

I has checked the startup folder but nothing relevant to
this is found. The Windows explorer pop up window comes
for any user who logs into the system.

Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Thank you

Start\Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer
Management(Local)\System Information\Software Environment\Startup
Programs|View|Advanced, then in the "Location" column, you'll find the path
to the "Startup" location either in the "Startup" directories or from the
registry's "Run" keys.

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
%USERPROFILE%\%USERNAME%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You can delete the shortcuts that you no longer want to run.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You can delete the string value for the program you no longer want to run.

1. unwanted advertising pop ups

You can try AdSubtract at Adsubtract.com.  They have freeware and payware
(cheapware) that's vry effective.  Also Ad-aware.net (don't forget the
hyphen in the name) has some products that kill the tracers, inclduing some
freeware.
