It can't.  It's a confirmed K56 POP.

The ISP must have some x2 equipment and some K56flex equipment. Your calls
must be occasionally hunting over to the K56flex equipment. One easy way to
tell: turn on your modem speaker. When you connect at K56flex speeds, you
should hear an extra tone at the beginning of the connection sequence.

I didn't say you were.  What I meant was that you must be connecting to a
K56 modem, since (1) no modem supports both x2 and K56 and (2) your modem
does not support x2.

They might be misinformed.

You got a K56 connection.

Perhaps there are only a few K56 modems in the pool, and you keep trying
until you get it.  ( I'd rather call an ISP that has the right kind of
modem on all lines. ;)
