advice on debugging sportster needed

My USR Sportster just stopped connecting at anything higher that 2400
baud. I never configured it, just used it out of the box. Now connects
that used to work don't any longer. What is the best way to isolate
this? Is there a known working bulliten board that I should try. Is
there a USR bulleten board that I should try. I tried a Compuserve
9600 baud line and only connected at 2400 but I had never tried that
line before so I don't know if it would have worked before I started
having problems.

Steve,

I would suggest calling the USR BBS at 1 708 982 5151 to rule out any problems
with the remote system.  Also, check that your dip switches are set with 3, 5,
and 8 down (on), use the initialization string AT&F&B1&H1&R2, and configure
your comm software to use RTS/CTS (hardware) flow control.

If you still have problems, call technical support on 1 708 982 5151.

1. Need advice on Sportster 33.6 w/Voice Replacement

Hey,

My "bug-free" Sportster 33.6 w/ Voice pause, refuses to hangup for
call waiting, doesn't work with Delrina Winfax 7.0, and can't
negotiate connections over 26,400 (not a line problem, I've tried it
with others).  Anyways, it's being sent back to USR.

I've narrowed the replacement field down to two: the Hayes Accura 28.8
Office Solution, and the Supra Express 28.8 w/Voice.  Any ideas on
which is the better of the two, in terms of customer support,
upgradeability, connection rates, and stability?  Any other modems
(that support voice, and cost $160-190) that I should consider?

Thanks,

Patrick
