The upgrade is all the way to V.90 and includes x2. If your ISP has not
gone to V.90 but is running x2 code on USR/3Com racks, it is possible
that you will have problems but you can disable x2 in that case and go
back to your V.34 connections and won't have lost anything. When the ISP
upgrades to V.90, you can then use the modem to its fullest capability.
If the ISP is running the latest released x2 code then you won't have
any problems unless your line is incapable of 56k type connections.
So, if you upgrade, you get both x2 and V.90 in one. And, if your ISP is
running the proper code, you will get an improvement.
If your ISP is not running x2 or V.90, there is no real need to upgrade
at this time.
