USR 28.8 internal Plug'N'Play help!

Post by Matt McCa » Thu, 11 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I've got a new USR 28.8 internal modem with Plug'N'Play.  I'm trying
to use it with Trumpet Winsock in Windows3.11.  I've got the baud rate
set at 38400.  The initialization string I'm using is:

        at&fx4&b1&c1&d2&h1&k3&r2

I can get it to dial and connect, but then the connection drops off.
I can't open up any other programs.

I've tried to install the modem with the Plug'N'Play jumpers off, but
then the modem gets no response.

Do I need another init string?  Is the baud rate wrong?  Do I need to
run with or without the jumpers?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you should check your name server and gateway addresses more
than your modem.  You can take the x4 and the &h1 out of your init
string, those are contained in &f1.

I called my ISP and they told me that the modem was logging in (they
showed a successful log on their end), but then my connection will
die.  At least, I *think* the connection was dead, because I got a
phone call while I *thought* I was on-line--and I don't have
call-waiting...

Any extra input would be appreciated!

1. Sportster 28.8 Plug&Play...Can't install in Win95..Please Help!

I am having major difficulty installing my Sportster 28.8/33.6 Plug
and
PLay modem in my computer.  All Cards in the computer and PLug and
PLau
and the motherboard and BIOS are new and support P&P, and I use
Windows
95.  The probelm is that I can't get Windows95 to dectect the
modem...also I am unable to set up the modem manually, since the card
is
P&P and I don't know what COM and IRQ it has decided to use (plus I
only
get to choose the active onboard COM1 serial port as an option when
trying to manually install the modem.

I have a TYan Titian III MB
Soundblaster 16 Plug and Play
Diamond Stealth 3d

I have 1 active Com port set on the machine (Com 1 using IRQ 4), and
have com 2 and IRQ 3 open (a nice place for the modem to be-and I
purposely left this open for the modem) and I have
IRQ 5 used by Soundblaster (that is where the SB P&P decided to go),
so
Com3 would not be a good place.

What can I do??  I have tried to have it detect a modem and find new
hardware...but it does not see this modem at all!

Please tell me what steps I should take to get the sportster working
on
my machine!!  Thanks

Steve Charles

P.S. I like NON-Plug & Play better....I never had problems like these
when I could set the jumpers to where I wanted them!
