1. Gee Thanks (was: T130B Install)
: [Gee, I'd like to thank everyone for the ZERO responses to this post,
: so I'm reposting it. If Linux can't handle an old, standard card like
: this, it looks like I'll be forced back into the MS OSes, at least
: they can be installed!]
: Hi. I'm a newbie to Linux, but not to computers. I'm trying to install RedHat
: 5.0, and it won't recognise my CDROM, which is on a Trantor 130B SCSI card.
: The card is listed as supported, and, according to the docs I've found, I
: should use the NCR5380 driver and pass it
: ncr53c400=0x350,7
: 350 is the port, and 7 is the irq. I checked the card, both these settings are
: correct. The drive works fine under DOS with a Trantor DOS driver. So the gear
: is functioning. Linux just says "Can't Find that Device anywhere in your
: System"
: I did notice when I pressed Alt-F3 that it says insmod failed. Is that just
: because the driver couldn't find the SCSI card, or does it indicate that the
: driver couldn't load at all?
: Any help appreciated!! Let me know if I've left out any important details...
Is the T130B driver built-in or a module. If it is a module, setting the
boot parameter as you indicated does nothing since the driver isn't around at
boot time to be modified. In that case, you need to build a modules.conf file
(or conf.modules) in the /etc directory which passes the parameters to the
driver when insmod does load the driver.
