changing partition AdvFS uses

Post by farul ghazal » Thu, 15 Mar 2001 12:50:36

I have a 5.0a system currently using AdvFS. I allocated all the disk
space on several disks for AdvFS, but I realized that I need to claim
some space back from some of those AdvFS partitions to use for Sybase
raw partitions.

Is it possible to move the AdvFS partition from say dsk2c to dsk2a
easily? I can imagine doing a vdump/vrestore but that involves quite a
bit of downtime since it's a 20+ gig filesystem with user files. Is
there an easier way of doing this?

TIA.

No - the c partition is the whole disk.

Yes. Take another disk of size minimum the space used today and
add it to the AdvFS-domain by addvol.
After this operation is ended just use rmvol on the dsk2c.

So then you need to re-initialize the dsk2c disk and then partion it
once over.

You may find

helpful.

NB! addvol requires a license; ADVFS-UTILITIES.

1. AdvFS partition for /tmp (tru64 5.0)?

Unlike other recent threads, I would like to make /tmp a separate AdvFS
file partition, on a 5.0 system where it is initially set as a symbolic
link (to all that clusters stuff).

Is there any problem doing that? - i.e. deleting the symbolic link, and
mounting a AdvFS partition as /tmp.  (We are not using any clustering,
and will not be doing so).
[Motive for doing so is to avoid /tmp filling up the / partition]

TIA
