NetBSD-1.0 i386 - Missing?

Post by Dale Richards » Sun, 22 Oct 1995 04:00:00

Where are the files to the i386 1.0 release?
ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/netbsd/NetBSD-1.0/i386/floppies
and other similar directories seem to be empty
Am I looking in the wrong place?

PS. Is there some description of what has improved between 1.0 and the
upcoming 1.1 release?

Regards,
Dale Richardson

Valid point, but still no use.
The same directories seem to be empty

I presume its just an artifact that the server for NetBSD has changed but
these mirrors sites haven't got the new location yet...

(if you are in australia you can also try ftp.dstc.edu.au for all your bsd
needs ;-)

Well, no one has told me anything about the server being changed...
I'm mirroring happily from ftp.netbsd.org, what is the _right_ place
        if it has moved?

(I'm responsible or the ftp.funet.fi mirror)

Yes, it has moved.
Yes, ftp.netbsd.org is still the right place.

It's only that ftp.netbsd.org is pointing to a new machine,
and that machine doesn't have the exact same things as the
old ftp.netbsd.org used to.  Some of this may be planned,
some may be accidental and to-be-fixed-any-minute.

Hope that this helps clear things up a bit.

it seems something has happened at the main site, and the mirrors have
all faithfully updated themselves.
IF there is anyone in Australia that could put the i386 1.0 release up
for anon FTP? There is a kind soul in the USA that is attempting to do
it at the moment, but I don't want to put him into too much bother, and
besides chewing up 30-40MB worth of Bandwith across an overseas link will
not make me popular.

Thanks in Advance,

1. Symbolic Math Package for NetBSD-1.0-i386 or Linux

Check out the "calc" elisp package by Dave Gillespie that runs
under GNU emacs. It can do simple symbolic calculations like
polynomial arithmetic, solving simultaneous equations etc. but is
not as fancy as Mathematica or Maple.  It uses a stack oriented
user-interface and has a wonderfully complete 500+ page manual.

[Note that this is different from the "calc" package by David
Bell which is a C-like language for doing arbitrary precision
arithmetic and runs idependently (it does not do symbolic math).]
