NetBSD/Mac68k installer problem

Post by abraz.. » Fri, 14 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi All,

I got an error using NetBSD/Mac68k_installer Software.
Herewith my configuration/installation :

1- I have macintosh IIci with 20Mb memories and
have only one 4,2 Gb HD (on SCSI 0)

2- My Macintoch System software version is
7.5.3/3.0 or  System 7.4 Update 2.0

3- I'm trying to install NetBSD1.4.2 :
3.1- I finished to do Disk partition  using
        AppleHDSC_Setup_7.3.5, as follow :

            - 16k    : Mac Driver
            - 124k   : Mac_Hd
            - 1G     : A/UX Root Slice 0
                       mapped to NetBSD Root
            - 222k   : A/UX Swap Slice 1
                       mapped to NetBSD Swap
            - 1,7G   : A/UX Usr  Slice 2
                       mapped to NetBSD Usr
            - 22k    : Free

    3.2- I finished to format each partition's
(A/UX's) using Mkfs. And, I guess, file systems
have been installed.

3.3- Then, when I want to install the files
using NetBSD/Mac68k_installer,I got the following
message :

        sd0 at scsi ID 0
Partition read, SCSI ID = 0
        Mounting partition 'A' as /
        sd0a : Root 'NetBSD Root'
               at 2496988 size 2018036
sd0g : Usr 'Usr file system'
               at 4959676 size 3420351
        sd0b : Swap 'Swap'
               at 4959676 size 3420351
        sd0d : HFS_PART 'Macos'
               at 96 size 2496892
        sd0e : Other (APPLE_FREE) 'Extra'
               at 83380027 size 53

        Error on SCSIRead(), #5
        failed mountfs(), error 22
        error mounting root
        mount root : Undefined error : 0

I don't have any other SCSI device connected into my computer.
It seems like looking for SCSI device #5 !!

At this stage, I can do anything that why I need
help.

Any suggestion will be welcome.

Thanks in advance.
Abdon.

1. problem booting NetBSD/mac68k

I am having a problem booting NetBSD 1.2.1 (using Booter 1.9.7) on a Mac II
with 8 MB of RAM, running System 7.5.3.  It looks as though the kernel
begins to load (I sometimes get the copyright message, and once even got
the line with the GENERIC tag and version number), but then the system
freezes.  I have two questions:

1)  How do I find out *where* or *why* the kernel is freezing?
2)  Has anybody encountered this behavior before?

Thanks in advance for any insights you might have.  What is maddening is
that NetBSD used to boot without any trouble.  I am getting these freezes
with a newly mkfs'ed and installed system.  I have also tried GENERIC_39,
to no avail...
