Hints on using mrouted ?

Post by Heiko W.Ru » Thu, 11 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

I am at the moment playing with multicast and want to run mrouted. But
this one just gives me:

quaak# mrouted -d
debug level 2
04:44:18.268 mrouted version 3.5
04:44:18.486 can't enable Multicast routing in kernel: Operation not supported

From what I read in the kernel sources this should only occur when the socket
in question in neither a RAW_SOCKET, nor has IGMP as protocol, but which
should be the case from what I see in mroute's code ..

Any hints?

Even If I already looked at the kernel config I didn't see it ...

I need ``options MROUTING'' in the kernel config.

It could also mean that you didn't build the kernel with "options MROUTING".

1. using mrouted on 2.0.33 to connect to mbone

I'm trying to connect our local net to the mbone.

Therefore mrouted-3.81 is running on a linux 2.0.33 machine with two
ethernet interfaces.
We have configured one tunnel to the mbone and the two
local interfaces to subnets are configured automatically in "mrouted.conf'.

This is what happens: On each of the local nets, machines can talk to
eachother using
multicast. Our mrouter talks to the mbone. But the subnets do not see
anything happen outside.

It seems to be a kernel problem that multicast packets are not forwarded
between the two interfaces. Has anyone experienced the same problem? and is
there a solution?
