ANN: Puppy Linux

Post by Barry Kaule » Tue, 24 Jun 2003 01:40:05

My tiny Linux distro, called "Puppy" is available for
download, v0.1:

http://www.goosee.com/puppy

This version is experimental, not for newbies.

Puppy has a reasonable suite of X apps and runs entirely
in a 48M ramdisk, which means that everything happens in
the blink of an eye.

Experimenters wanted, to get Puppy to boot off different
media. First take on it is I have Puppy booting off a
USB flash card.
Possibilies are CDROM, Zip, LS120/240, hard drive...

Barry Kauler

1. ANN: Puppy Linux v0.2 released, boots off a CDROM

Just a few days after the first release of Puppy Linux, v0.1,
I now have v0.2 available, with some structural improvements
and Puppy now boots off a CDROM -- the ISO is only 20M.

My tiny Linux distro, called "Puppy" is available for
download, v0.2:

http://www.goosee.com/puppy

This version is experimental, not for newbies.

Puppy has a reasonable suite of X apps and runs entirely
in a 48M ramdisk, which means that everything happens in
the blink of an eye.

Experimenters wanted, to get Puppy to boot off different
media. First take on it is I have Puppy booting off a
USB flash card. Now a CDROM. Next...
With v0.2 I have made some structural changes that make
it easier to get Puppy to boot off just about anything, so if
you have already downloaded v0.1, please grab v0.2
-- and please check the checksum. The image.gz is 18.5M
but I have a slow dialup Internet connection and the upload
takes about 2.5 hours, and I keep my fingers crossed that
the whole thing will arrive intact.
