Hello,
Skim 0.1 has been uploaded to sunsite.
What is Skim?
Skim is a news reading package which is optimized for slow serial lines
(Slip/PPP). Skim supports:
- Fetching 'Subject:' lines quickly.
- Selecting articles off-line.
- Fetching selected articles quickly.
- Constructing replies.
- Constructing new articles.
- Posting articles.
Skim minimizes the connect time by:
1) Only doing what it is supposed to be doing (e.g. not updating the
complete list of newsgroups in every session, like many other news
readers do).
2) Starting multiple parallel sessions with the news server, to saturate
the serial line.
3) Not requiring a session with the news server while you are skimming
subjects.
Skim is *not* a fully featured graphical newsreader. You'll have to use
the command line and edit text files.
What are the system requirements?
1) You need access to a news server, which supports both the NNTP protocol
(RFC-977) and the XHDR extension. See Skim's README for more information.
2) A Linux system with bash(1), gcc(1), sed(1), grep(1), hostname(1).
What is the copying policy?
Freely redistributable under the GPL.
Where to get Skim?
Skim 0.1 has been uploaded to:
sunsite.unc.edu:/uploads/skim-0.1.tar.gz
with the request to put it into:

CONFIGURATION, GETTING STARTED and a USER'S GUIDE.
