DU or Linux on Digital Server 3300/3300R

Post by Marc Thom » Sat, 13 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I noticed that someone asked a question about either Digital Unix or
Linux on a DecServer 7300 . My question is the same about the
Digital Server 3300/3300R (which ships with NT-ugh) , i.e. can I run at
least one of Digital Unix 4.0 or some Linux port (RedHAT, etc.) on this box?

I don't need a "guaranteed" answer (this may be against Compac/Digital
policy). I am quite familiar with both these operating systems and
I would be very happy if someone could even tell me "off the
record" that it is possible or that they have seen one of these
operating systems running on this box.

                        Thanks,
                        Marc

The 3300 and the 3300R(Rackmount) will run Linux. They are an offshoot of
the Corell (AS800) Family

You cannot get Digital UNIX or VMS for this box.

1. DECserver 3300/3300R (PCI not Turbochannel)

Hello
I'm happening to have a Decserver 3300/3300R, the (supposed) NT
model (otherwise supposedly identical to the Decserver 800).
Processor 21164, AlpaBIOS 5.66, SRM 5.2.124, 3x32bit PCI,
1x64bit/EISA/PCI, 3xEISA, 128 MB Ram, QLogic SCSI.

The board is Ayoma (that's what's written on it), but I've been able to
run with xlt-alcor MILO. Others (eb6xx, xl) crashed instantly. This one
comes up, but as soon as it begins hardware-detection (after "show" or "ls" or
"boot") it starts throwing things at me, like: CIA processor check: processor
hardware error, vector 0x670.

Does anyone know:
- what kind of board this really is, i.e. what MILO, kernel, bootimage it
  really needs?
- Whether this needs none of the known MILO's and who has such a MILO
  in that case.
- What the hell the CIA is doing on my board ;-)

And of course, the machine should be running Linux by tomorrow...

Thank you
Peter
