Hi there,

does anyone know if there is a version of Netscape out there for linux
alpha that supports 128 bit encryption? If not, is there any
alternative to Netscape that does? I understand that Mozilla does not
support any kind of encryption. I am running RedHat 6.1.

Hi Jesse,

Yes there is a version. I run it myself. YOu have to get it from
www.netscape.com. You can only do it through a web browser because of
the agreement that you have to acknowledge.

Visit: www.fortify.net to update your current installed version
to 128 bit. Works great.

fortify ? try www.fortify.net

if there isn't a binary release, you can probably download and compile
it yourself and mesh it into your netscape browser.

I doubt strongly that this would work. Fortify examines the binary code
and replaces certain stretches of binary code. That code for the alpha
will be totally different from that for an x86 chip.

It worked perfectly for the DU 4.0D binary. You just have to modify the shell
script since it checks for the OS. I don't know too much about the recent
Compaq RPM, but I have heard that it is just the Tru64 5.0 binary with shlibs
added. If Fortify supports 5.0 then I would assume that the patch works as
well.

I was told by my supplier that Netscape doesn't run on Linux Alpha.
I have an alpha pws433 with redhat 6.1 and haven't tried Netscape yet.

are you sure that netscape (the company) offers such a version? I know
there are versions for various brands of Unix, and a few Linux, but those
are probably for Linux running on Intel chips. Do you in fact have a
computer with an alpha chip (made by digital, now compaq) running linux
with 128 bit encryption? If so, please tell me the exact link of where you
found this version of netscape. thanks !

I looked there, but they don't have a version of fortify for linux alpha.
did you somehow get one of the other linux versions of fortify to work for
your linux/alpha machine?

Since the only "Linux/Alpha" version of Netscape is really the Tru64
version of Netscape, wouldn't you need to run Fortify for the Tru64
version? (perhaps manually, see www.alphalinux.org)

Or just dowmnload the Tru64 version of Netscape with strong encryption and
replace the Netscape binary?
