Unknown compression method - cant get started.

G'day all,

I have just got access to an Alpha 4000, 256 Meg RAM, Dual CPU.
When I boot it, I see some stuff about it finding a valid boot block, and then:

Jumping to bootstrap code
aboot: Linux/Alpha SRM bootloader version 0.5
aboot: switching to OSF/1 PALcode version 1.21
aboot: no disklabel found
aboot: boot_dev='dva 0 1000 0 0 0 8086 0002', guessing boot_device=`fd0'
aboot: loading plain ...
aboot: unexpected object file format 13
aboot: loading compressed ...

unzip: unknown compression method
Enter kernel name and arguments
aboot> _

I am trying to install RedHat but dont really care which distribution I install.
The README says to check the README in the 'kernels' directory ... there is no
README there, nor in the RedHat 4.2 area. There are several images in the images
directory: I assume the ramdisk.img is the same as a ramdisk disk in slackware,
and I need one of the others to boot, then load the ramdisk.

Any ideas?
TIA,
George.

I have tried several different Alpha kernels, nearly all report the same
problem.

Any ideas?
TIA,
George.
