What upgrade options are there for an AlphaStation 200 4/166 running
Linux that I have sitting on my desk?
I would like to replace the Alpha processor with something faster, say a
233 MHz chip or better. With this in mind, I have poked around the
DEC Web sites, only to discover that the AlphaStation 200 is a
discontinued product. Thus talking to DEC is possibly pointless. But
from what I have seen on this newsgroup lately, processor upgrading is
a popular topic and readers here have experience in this process. It
would seem reasonable, that if the Alpha is to compete with Intel
processors, a chip/board replacement analogous to that available for
PC upgrades needs to be available for Alphas without throwing the
total box, including other perfectly good bits and pieces, away.
Can anybody help?
