You should probably start by trying to build 2.0.35 (the most recent
"stable" kernel). Get the standard kernel source tarball (canonical
source:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.0/
but use a mirror). Then get the alpha patch set from:
ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/Kernels/
the file you want is alpha-patches-2.0.34-0.1.gz.
Untar the kernel source and apply the patch. The patch, even though
it was designed for 2.0.34, will apply cleanly except for one reject.
The reject is for a typo in a comment which was corrected in both the
Alpha patch and in 2.0.34->35. Ignore it.
Build and compile the usual way. No special tricks.
If you _need_ a 2.1.x kernel, try 2.1.104. If you need bleeding edge,
try 2.1.109 + 2.1.110pre2 + my earlier post today about all the crufty
hacking you'll need to do to get it to compile.
