Try downloading the Digital Unix version from adobe's website
(http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) and running it on
linux using the Tru64-compat libraries included with redhat.

You can also open many pdf files on linux using Ghostview or Xpdf.

Try the version for Tru64.  It might work.  Netscape for tru64 does
work.

Thanks.  It works.  I just had to rename the "alphaosf" directory to
"intellinux".

When I run acroread, I get 2 annoying pup-up error-messages:

1.  There was an error while loading the plug-in `search.api'.  The plug-in
failed to load.

2.  There was an error while loading the plug-in `autolndx.api'.  The plug-in
failed to initialize.

Other than that, it seems to work fine.  Oh, and one more thing:  when I
start acroread, I get this warning:

Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged

I also get this warning when I start netscape from the command line.

It does not really look that you finished that.  Apparently you are
still missing user accounts.  Don't use 'root' for _anything_ but a
system administration tasks which cannot be performed in other way.

What is wrong with current versions of xpdf?

A few days ago a fried of mine spent quite a bit of time trying to
print with acroread some document produced on Windows (a print flag
was set to "Yes" in case you are wondering).  After wasting enough
of that printing through xpdf worked immediately without any fuss. :-)

I seem to recall you can fix it in one of the scripts without
having to be dishonest about your architecture type.  1/2 :-)

This was discussed many months ago.  Unfortunately, I don't
recall what the solution was.  You might try (re)moving (save
them away in case you decide to put them back) those files if
files by those names exist in the acroread tree.

I also get that, but it only a text warning, so I ignore it.

One other quirk of Acroread is it does not honor the xmodmap
assignment of the CTRL modifier function to its rightful place to
the left of the 'A' key.  Acroread requires use of one of the
keys marked "Ctrl" on the physical keyboard.

I used to see that a lot.  ITYF it's just X telling you that
it doesn't support whatever international locale you've chosen
(e.g. Australian English).  I've always ignored it...
