CCD vs. raidcrtl

CCD vs. raidcrtl

Post by Andrea » Fri, 28 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hi !

I want to establish a mirrored (failsafe) OpenBSD with two IDE Disk.

First it is unclear if it's possible to boot from the mirrored disk. Do
I have to boot
a kernel from floppy ? Do I need an extra partition ?

Second I think I have to options to establish a mirror: ccd or raidctl
Are both failesafe ( i.e. the systems runs if one disk crashes ) ?

Cheers,
Andi

Read more about raidctl... it's what you want.

1. CCD vs VINUM

Could someone explain to me the difference between CCD and VINUM?  From what
I can tell, they're both software RAID.  But perhaps I'm wrong?  Is there an
advantage of one over the other, considering that I want to tie together a
bunch of old harddrives to store my MP3's on (so it doesn't have to be too
fast or stable, since MP3's aren't exactly critical).
