OpenBSD and Installing with PCMCIA Ethernet

Post by Brian Se » Tue, 31 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I've used OpenBSD before and I know that I can install OBSD
through FTP, but when I attempted to install OBSD on my laptop(which uses
a PCMCIA card for ethernet) I could not set this device up.

I guess my question is: Do they have PCCard on a floppy install
image so that I can set up my PCMCIA card? if so where can I find it? The
one on the OBSD site doesn't seem to have this support in the default
boot floppy.

Thanks,

Brian

depends on what ethernet card you have, ive installed with a d-link and
linksys,
both of which get detected, but the linksys one doesnt work.

freebsd does have an extra pcmcia disk but its only been tested with one
such card
(and could not detect the lap tops hard disk) and i think netbsd may
have some issues
with it as well. dont remember.

1. installing RedHat 5.1 via pcmcia ethernet

I am trying to install RH5.1 on a TI TravelMate 5300 laptop.  I don't have a
CD-ROM drive so I am relying on my 3com589c ethernet card to do a network
install.  The problem arises when I insert the supplemental disk to load
pcmcia services: cardmgr recognizes the card correctly, but then I get:

cardmgr[12]: executing './network start eth0'
cardmgr[12]: + ./network: /sbin/ifup: not found
cardmgr[12]: start cmd exited with status 2

Has anyone else had problems like this?  I can't continue the install,
obviously, because of the lack of a network connection.
