Does 2.7 have updated ports?

Post by Mark Haa » Sat, 08 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I'm asking because I'm running 2.6 on a mac68k platform (quadra 610 to be
precise) but have had trouble installing the mysql port. I've gotten other
ports to work, so I don't believe it's my own ineptitude in this
particular case. Is there any reason to believe that if I upgrade to 2.7
and get the new ports collection that it will work? What other incentives
does 2.7 offer? tia

2.7 certainly has upgraded ports.  You can also upgrade your ports to
current using CVS.

  cd /usr
  export CVS_RSH=/usr/bin/ssh

  cvs -q up -PAd ports/databases/mysql

Changes in ports is a very good reason to update to 2.7.
In particular, most ports are now available as binary packages for common
architectures.

And there has been a real huge revamp/check that everything builds okay,
mostly thanks to Chris Turan building and rebuilding packages, and lots
of people testing stuff.
